About the year 1860, to solve the problem of poachers on estates and game reserves in England, gamekeepers crossed the mastiff with the bulldog, thus the Bullmastiff was founded. These dogs were fearless and would attack on command. Despite its imposing size and weight the Bullmastiff can be an affectionate and calm companion dog. It is loyal and intelligent, and is surprisingly patient with children.
