The Shiba Ina
is the smallest and probably the most ancient of native
Japanese dogs. One theory about the name 'shiba' is that
it simply denotes small. Another opinion is that the
name was given because of its ability in going freely
through the brilliant red brushwood trees that so
closely matched the breed's red coat. Shibas enjoy a
staunch following, and their popularity as an alert
intelligent watchdog continues to grow. |
