The Rhodesian
Ridgeback is a native of South Africa. European Boer
settlers bred their European dogs with native Hottentot
tribal hunting dogs (a dog distinguished by a ridge on
its back with the hair growing forward) to produce a dog
that could withstand both hot and cold temperatures,
limited water, and rough bush. Ridgebacks are keen and
versatile hunters, and intelligent, loyal guardians. The
Ridgeback is a fine pet for families who enjoy large
dogs. |
