In the rugged mountains of northern Japan the Akita was bred as a versatile hunting dog. The breed is now widely renowned for loyalty, intense love,  and obedience to its owner. The Akita   is  affectionately regarded as a loyal companion, great pet, and  superb guard dog. In his native country of Japan the Akita is one of seven breeds designated as a National Monument.
